Many customers often ask us what are the best tips to save on their electricity bill. We decided to present you with a list of easy-to-adopt behaviors and ideas to help you save on your electricity bill. Most require little or no investment and will allow you to achieve real results in terms of energy savings.

#1. Washing in cold water

Washing in cold water saves on hot water. This may seem unremarkable but the hot water tank is a very energy-intensive device. Today, there are a variety of washing machines and laundry detergents designed specifically for cold water washing. These washes are also effective!

#2. Use the clothesline

In summer, the clothesline is a great way to save you money on your electricity bill. The tumble dryer is also one of the most energy-intensive appliances in the house as it operates at 240V and contains elements (resistance) that heat the air. The clothesline also has several benefits. Drying clothes in the sun is a natural disinfectant and naturally softens your clothes. It’s an activity that allows you to take a breath of fresh air at the same time!

#3. Take a shower, not a bath

The shower is much more economical than the bath! Taking a 7-minute shower is on average 3 times more economical than taking a bath. A shower of 5 to 10 minutes spends between 20 and 60 litres of water while a bath may require 150 to 200 litres of water.

#4. Lower the temperature at night

Did you know that heating can account for up to 54% of your annual electricity bill? Several electronic thermostats allow for a lowering of the temperature at night, which allows substantial savings in your heating costs. If you’re not sure, contact us for more information about replacing your thermostats 🙂

#5. Lower heating in unused rooms

Heating is the largest portion of your electricity bill. If you have cold or uninhabited rooms at home, it is best to lower the temperature in these rooms. You can safely lower the temperature to 12 degrees celcius. Also make sure to keep the doors closed as much as possible!

#6. Replace light bulbs for LED

The arrival of LEDs is a major advance in terms of energy efficiency. In fact, LED lighting can consume 6 to 12 times less energy than a bulb of another type (incandescent, high-pressure sodium, or other). In addition, LED lighting provides a longer life than traditional bulbs. Also note that LED lighting can suit your tastes for lighting color and power. LEDs produce much less heat than traditional bulbs because they use much less energy. There are only advantages to using LED!

#7. Washing dishes in cold water

If you have a dishwasher, there are several opportunities to save, first, wait until it’s full enough to start a wash. Second, newer dishwashers allow for cold water washing, which can be just as effective with the right detergent. Do not dry your dishes using the dishwasher element, but instead leave the door open to allow it to dry naturally.

#8. Get Energy Star devices

Energy Star is a symbol of energy efficiency and is a company that evaluates products of all kinds. It is affiliated and supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its primary mission is to improve air quality and have a positive impact on climate change. Making an Energy Star choice is making a smart choice! Especially since these choices will help reduce your electricity bill!
